On December 10, 2018, Prof. Zhiyuan Li from South China University of Technology visited Advanced Photonics Center (APC) at Southeast University (SEU), who is invited by Prof. Yiping Cui, the director of APC in School of Electronic Science and Engineering. Professor Li is the highly cited researcher and the recipient of Distinguished Young Scholars of China. He gave an academic report entitled “Interaction of light and matter at micro-nanoscale: physics, technology and applications” in the APC conference room, which drew over 50 audiences including some teachers and graduate students from APC and other departments of the SEU.
Prof. Li introduced the latest progress made by his research group in laser direct writing and nano-paper-cut three-dimensional nanofabrication. He discussed the new physics, concept and technology of the interaction between light and matter on micro-nanoscale, and how to realize the comprehensive utilization and optimization of macro, mesoscopic and micro-control strategies. Besides, he reported the establishment of the theoretical system of second-harmonic generation (SHG) of nonlinear crystal thin film, and the basic physics of surface and tip enhanced Raman scattering.
In the discussion section, Prof. Li had a friendly and warmly academic discussion with the attendants on the theoretical system development of the SHG of nonlinear crystal thin film, and the nonlinear optical theory system for intense femtosecond laser pulses. After the talk, Prof. Li visited the utilities and laboratory of APC, and shared his thoughts and comments about the hot research topic and the research taken by APC. This event exchanges activity strengthened the academic exchanges and deepens our understanding about the technologies and the corresponding applications involved in this talk, and also provides a good opportunity for the cross-integration and the improvement of scientific research level and the expansion of research area of APC.

Dr. Zhiyuan Li,professor and associate dean of School of Physics and Optoelectronics at South China University of Technology.In 2004, he was elected to the “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.In 2005, he received the “The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars”.In 2011, he won the “Wang Dazhao Optics Award” of the Chinese Optical Society.In 2014, he was elected as a highly cited researcher by Thomson Reuters Global.In 2016 and 2017, he was selected as a highly cited researcher in China by Elsevier.In 2018, he was elected to the world’s highly cited researcher by Clarivate Analytics. Prof. Li is now the current EPL Co-Editor, as well as the editor of Advanced Optical Materials and Journal of Optics.His research interests include theoretical, experimental and applied research in nanophotonics, photonic crystals, surface plasmon optics, nonlinear optics, laser technology, optical tweezers, quantum optics, and quantum physics.He has published more than 400 SCI papers in the fields of physics, chemistry, and materials science. His thesis has extensive academic influence and has been cited more than 20,000 times by SCI.
